[Industry News] In the production of waterborne architectural coatings, industrial paints, and various aqueous color pastes, foam control remains a critical variable dictating production efficiency and film quality. Conventional silicone defoamer emulsions frequently suffer from "demulsification during grinding, phase separation during storage, and cratering defects during application." Particularly under high-speed dispersion and intense shear milling, standard emulsions struggle to balance immediate foam knockdown with long-term persistence. As green coatings advance toward high solid content and zero VOC formulations, the market now imposes stringent demands for "high stability, robust compatibility, and nonionic safety."
Addressing these systemic bottlenecks in waterborne systems, Anhui IOTA Silicone Oil Co., Ltd. (IOTA) recently launched the waterborne defoamer IOTA 2303. Built on a polydimethylsiloxane emulsion platform, the product utilizes specially engineered silicone treatment processes paired with a nonionic emulsifier system. With active content stabilized at 30±2%, it exhibits exceptional physical stability under high-shear processing and extended storage conditions.
The core advancement of IOTA 2303 lies in the precision control of silicone particle size distribution and the optimization of the emulsifier encapsulation layer. Compared to conventional emulsions, IOTA 2303 achieves significantly faster interfacial spreading and prolonged foam suppression within waterborne resin matrices. Its nonionic character ensures formulation safety across a wide range of PVC (Pigment Volume Concentration) levels—high, medium, or low—preventing flocculation with anionic or cationic dispersants and thickeners. This effectively mitigates the risk of surface defects such as fish eyes and craters in the final coating film.
Performance testing confirms significant efficacy advantages. At a recommended dosage of merely 50–500 ppm based on total formulation weight, IOTA 2303 delivers potent defoaming during dispersion, milling, and let-down stages. In latex paint and industrial waterborne coatings production specifically, the additive rapidly eliminates air entrapment caused by high-speed mixing while inhibiting foam regeneration during subsequent storage. This ensures batch-to-batch consistency in film appearance. Its opaque white liquid profile further facilitates visual monitoring during dosing and blending operations.
IOTA 2303 has already seen broad adoption in the manufacture of interior/exterior wall latex paints, waterborne wood coatings, anti-corrosion paints, and various color pastes. Industry experts note that as environmental regulations tighten and consumer expectations for coating aesthetics rise, waterborne additives are transitioning from "auxiliary components" to "functional cornerstones." The successful introduction of IOTA 2303 not only diversifies the domestic portfolio of waterborne defoamers but also provides coating manufacturers with a reliable material solution for upgrading product quality and reducing rejection rates. This milestone signifies substantial progress in the refinement and specialization of domestic waterborne silicone emulsion technology.
